RAYNHAM HOUSING AUTHORITY WINS AWARD FOR RENOVATIONS TO PINEWOOD TERRACE COMPLEX
The Raynham Housing Authority has won an Outstanding Agency Award from the Massachusetts Chapter, National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (MassNAHRO) for making major repairs and upgrades to its Pinewood Terrace elderly/handicapped complex.
The Outstanding Agency Awards, presented at MassNAHRO's recent annual conference in North Falmouth, recognize the association's member housing authorities for outstanding achievement in innovative housing and community development projects.
The Raynham Housing Authority's award recognized the agency's efforts to make badly needed repairs to its 32-year-old Pinewood Terrace complex, including replacing roofs on 10 buildings and removing solar panels at the end of their life cycle. The project also included the replacement of outdated refrigerators and storm doors, addressing health and safety issues with the walkways and parking lot and stairways at the community center, and upgrades to its alarm system and outside lighting.
Karen Reilly, Executive Director of the Raynham Housing Authority, said all of this work was accomplished despite the RHA's lack of reserves for capital improvements. The Authority worked with State Sen. Marc Pacheco of Taunton to obtain funding in the state budget. The RHA also received grants from the state Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) and through the ABCD Lean Retrofit Program to insulate doors, windows. and attics. In all, the Authority obtained more than $200,000 in funding from the state and from contributions by local organizations and businesses.
“Because we have no reserves, we had to work hard to obtain funding for these much needed improvements for the benefit of our residents,” said Ms. Reilly. “We are proud of our efforts and we appreciate this recognition from MassNAHRO. I also want to thank Senator Pacheco and Representative Angelo D'Emilia for their valuable assistance.”
Thomas J. Connelly, Jr., Executive Director of MassNAHRO, said the Outstanding Agency Awards recognize the innovation and creativity that local housing authorities all across the state employ to provide more and better affordable housing. “We are pleased to honor this great work done by the Raynham Housing Authority in serving its residents,” said Connelly
